Scott And Dayna's Paris Honeymoon (2004)!

On November 2nd, Scott and I left for our honeymoon. The destination was Paris, France and we couldn't wait! After doing lots of research (books, videos, French speaking CDs), we were ready to immerse ourselves in the culture and sample the things that Paris had to offer!

We started by booking our hotel rooms. We knew that one night, we wanted to pamper ourselves and stay somewhere tres chic! Scott had some Marriott points that he had accumulated from travelling for work, so we decided to see if we could use them and get a free room. To our delight, there was a Marriott right on the Champs-Elysees. The Champs-Elysees is the main street that runs right through the heart of Paris (maybe you've seen Lance Armstrong ride down it when he won the Tour de France recently). It is home to shops for the most elite designers and would easily be one of the shopping capitals of the world. We booked a room at the Marriott for one night. Why one night you ask? Well, first of all, this is a 5 star hotel with all modern amenities and it easily runs $400+/night. Secondly, we did want to experience the Champs-Elysee and the touristy side of Paris, but more than that, we really wanted to experience the authentic Paris.

Rather than staying in Americanized hotels, we wanted to stay somewhere that offered a more native French flair to it... somewhere that was cozy and authentic. One thing we both agreed on was that it must have a bathroom in the same room! We didn't want to have any incidents like they had on National Lampoon's European Vacation when the bathroom was down the hall! So, from there we talked about some areas of Paris we liked (Paris is separated into 20 neighborhoods, or arrondissements). We really liked the Eiffel Tower area, which has some very intimate neighborhoods in it, especially around the street Rue Cler. We also liked the beatnik/artistic feel of the Latin Quarter. We set out looking for hotels in these areas.

We found a quaint little hotel near the Eiffel Tower called... go figure... Hotel Eiffel Park. We really loved the area, and the hotel even has a nice little terrace on the roof where you can have breakfast. After learning it was just one street over from the famous Rue Cler, we knew it was the hotel for us! We plan on having a nice picnic style lunch while we're there. Rue Cler has everything one needs for a perfect lunch. We'll be gathering ingredients for our picnic at the various stores along the street... including a wine shop, cheese shop, vegetable shop, butcher, and a bakery.

Finally we looked in the Latin Quarter and found a lovely hotel called Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg. Directly across the street from the hotel are the Luxembourg Gardens. Also a stone's throw away is another famous Parisian landmark, The Pantheon.

Here's our daily itinerary. Some of the sites we'll see while we're there include:

Arc De Triomphe
Eiffel Tower
Ile De La Cite
La Madeleine
The Latin Quarter
Le Pompidou
Les Invalides / Musee De L'Armee
The Louvre
The Luxembourg Gardens
The Metro
Moulin Rouge
Musee D'Orsay
Notre Dame
The Pantheon
Paris Opera
Place De La Bastille
Place De La Concorde

This, of course, is just a sneak peek of what is to come. We'll tell you all about our trip when we get back! Until then, here are some fun links to check out!
