The Cure: 'Boys Don't Cry'
Fiction

"A Pop Classic" screams Scot upstart Gurr from across the desk... and in fact we're presented with The Cure packing a massive commercial qualty into a sub three minute rant, a truly special little pop song, the sort that raises question-marks as to why most people see fit to keep pumping the old vein. It does smack faintly of Pleaserisms in parts, but the texture and drive immediately irradicates any wimpish tendencies to lay labels on it. The Cure gradually branch out - they take in sublime pop and offset it with less obvious subtleties. This single is both pleasureable and chart-destined. There's a rarity.
